Skara Brae

At Skara Brae in Orkney.

Skara Brae is an ancient village. These stones that you can see today were laid on top of each other, carefully arranged by someone's hands, over five thousand years ago. You can see drystone walls built in the same way all over the islands of Orkney today. People lived at Skara Brae continuously for a thousand years, so it was already ancient then, when it was abandoned and left to the sand and the wind.
